European Parliament votes for fair play in the agri-food chain

Following strong mobilisation over the last few days, European farmers welcome the positive vote by MEPs in Strasbourg to ‘Cut The Unfair’ from Europe’s food chain.

“Today’s vote shows that MEPs have understood the importance of M De Castro’s report and care about the way we produce our food and the people that produce it,” said Pekka Pesonen, Copa-Cogeca Secretary General. “With almost 70% of the voters in favour, a strong signal has been sent promoting fair play in the agri-food chain. We now look forward to the trialogue process and a positive conclusion of this legislative process.”

The negotiating mandate was approved by 428 votes in favour, 170 against and 18 abstentions. The trialogue discussions will start in due course to ensure timely adoption of the proposed Directive on Unfair trading practices.
