First International Berry Seminar in Mexico

Biobest Mexico was proud to celebrate the First International Berry seminar in the state of Jalisco, right in the heart of this rapidly growing sector of Mexican horticulture. It is a region with more than 6000 hectares of berries, that houses the largest international companies - including Driscoll and Hortifrut -, and that focuses on helping small producers to be more sustainable.

The event was developed to bring the latest developments in the world of integrated pest management and cultivation practices to berry producers in order to help them meet their goals.

The seminar successfully attracted industry representatives that are willing to adopt new ways of managing their crops to optimize their production. The attendees showed interest in learning about the newest biological control products, strategies, and techniques from around the world. Exhibitors included Julien Mourrut-Salesse (Biobest Group), Javier Palma (Biobest Spain) and the independent consultants Julio Volante, from Spain, and Daniel Ibarra, from the United States, as well as the nutrition specialists from IMEX, Moises Moreno and Jorge Larios, and the specialists in soil disinfection, Estefania Ramos and Ricardo Rodriguez.

This event, gave Jalisco's berry sector access to information and tools that will help it make the transition to a more sustainable and healthy production.

"We got to discuss many good ideas, backed by technical knowledge and field experience," said Julio Ruelas Jurado, a producer of the region. "The topics were explained in detail. The event provided a lot of useful information to help the region's berry producing companies adopt best practices."

Julio Bernardo Diaz Mata, a technical consultant, was interested in knowing the differences and similarities between the cultivation techniques used in Spain and in the United States. "Learning about the biological control techniques and economic thresholds for the introduction of beneficial organisms was very useful. The event was very well organized, it provided us with relevant information and innovative ideas regarding the topics discussed," he said.
