Germany: Schleswig-Holstein opens pepper season

Last week, the German state of Schleswig-Holstein opened its pepper season with the harvest of red peppers. Vitarom Hemmingstedt, in the town of Hemmingstedt, wants to meet German demand for spicy food this year. The 12-hectare greenhouse now houses 202,000 pepper plants, alongside 98,000 tomatoes. Until the end of the year 2,500 tons of tomatoes and 1,500 tons of peppers and red peppers are to be harvested here,

From April to November, the produce is distributed to retail in North Germany through the 'Hamburger Großmarkt'.
