Wageningen UR finds a way to make tulips weather proof

Warmer winter temperatures can interfere with the development of a flower in a tulip bulb. Fortunately, researchers at Wageningen UR are ahead of this problem. They identified the genes responsible for the development of flowers.

Plant breeders can use this knowledge to grow tulip varieties that can withstand a warmer climate. This does not only safeguard the Netherlands’ flower bulb exports, it also means that over half a million tourists, and all Dutchmen, can continue to enjoy the Dutch tulip fields. This is how Wageningen UR contributes to improving the quality of life.
