Meridiem Seeds presents two new bell pepper varieties

The seed company Meridiem Seeds has presented its new pepper catalogue with special emphasis on its two major developments: Tolteca and Alvarado, two yellow bell peppers which managed to impress the audience.

During the event, the Spanish company made a review of the characteristics and benefits of the new peppers using riddles and games, and ultimately turning it into a show that managed to keep the attention of all present.

On the stage stood, among others, Jose Jimenez, manager of Meridiem Seeds, who thanked the audience for attending as well the seed company's entire team for the work done. Jimenez stated that thanks to the efforts made in research, more new pepper varieties will be launched besides Tolteca and Alvarado, as well as some melons and cucumbers.

Moreover, Miguel Garcia, marketing director of Meridiem Seeds, reviewed the company's organisation, naming the working departments that form part of it and where it is located.

Regarding the seeds for horticultural products currently supplied by Meridiem Seeds, the range includes cucumbers, melons, lettuce, aubergines, tomatoes, and of course peppers. The company owns facilities in the main production areas of these fruits and vegetables, as well as in Italy. Similarly, and through other distributors, the seed company is also present in Brazil, Turkey, Israel, the Netherlands and Australia.

New aspects in yellow bell peppers
In addition to mentioning the characteristics of the Oaxaca Lamuyo and Zacatecas red bell pepper, popular among the province's growers, Garcia presented an in-depth review of the features that make Tolteca and Alvarado, both resistant to L4 and Spotted, two excellent yellow bell pepper varieties.

Regarding Tolteca, Garcia stressed that "it is an early variety, whose transplant is recommended in June, no later than 10 July. It has a striking lemon yellow colour and it offers a spectacular yield, very commercial G-GG calibres and good postharvest preservation, aspects which, along with its good setting in high temperature conditions, its excellent firmness and the plant's balance, make of it an outstanding bell pepper variety.

Meanwhile the Alvarado, as explained by GarcĂa, "is indicated for middle-late cycle transplants in July, is quick to become productive, although it arrives in stages throughout the cycle, its fruits are perfectly square and present a wonderful lemon yellow colour.
