Paraguay to start building new greenhouses

Engineer Jorge Gattini will build eight new greenhouses in settlements of the AsunciĆ³n belt, within the framework of an urban and peri-urban development project. These programmes are part of a government strategy from President Horacio Cartes aimed at reducing poverty, and this one goes hand in hand with a strategy from the Ministry of Agriculture (MAG) which seeks to promote the cultivation of vegetables all year round. In ConcepciĆ³n and San Pedro, the MAG has already installed nearly three hundred irrigation systems, also for growing vegetables.

According to Gattini's estimations, each plant will produce between five and eight kilos of tomatoes. This vegetable's prices do not generally fall and currently stand at between eight thousand and twelve thousand Guarani per kilo.

The greenhouses contain between one and three hundred plants and each will produce an average of 2,400 kilos of tomatoes.

Each greenhouse could achieve an average turnover of nineteen million Guarani, according to analysis conducted by MAG technicians. A total of about fifteen greenhouses are planned to be built with the resources available at this time.
