The New Cultivation in combination with plant welfare

In recent years, concepts and practical tests have been developed for various crops by The New Cultivation. By the use of a second screen, horizontal vents and dehumidification of incoming air some significant savings have already been achieved in gas consumption. Reduced energy consumption of up to 30% has been achieved and other insights emerged on CO2 dosing in combination with the stimulation of stomatal structure. But how do we know that the plant grows optimally and flourishes under these conditions?

Rop Petit of Hortisupport has over 8 years’ experience in the analysis of plant measurement data by using a Grow Watch Plant Monitoring system. Sensors measure incident (par) light, room temperature and plant temperature, humidity, CO2, plant fluorescence, possibly supplemented with leaf thickness, substrate parameters and additional information.

When measurement data doesn't correspond to expectations, there might be a case of plant stress, and therefore growth restriction. For example, if plant temperature is too high with respect to room temperature, plant data show inexorably that something is wrong. In that case, the support of plant physiologist Anton Blaakmeer is more than welcome.

Recently, some great strides have been made in our knowledge of plant health in gerbera, peppers and Kalanchoes. Through Rop, it is also possible to rent the Grow Watch for a certain period of time (recommended is at least three months).
