Fuller and 40pc more lettuce for Clean Fresh Foods due to LumiGrow LED lights

In line with a growing trend among forward-thinking greenhouse farm operators, Clean Fresh Food of Wisconsin installed energy-efficient greenhouse lighting to achieve healthy, year-round crop growth. The LumiGrow Pro 325™ solution selected by Clean Fresh Food uses 70 percent less energy than conventional high-intensity discharge (HID) greenhouse light fixtures. Clean Fresh Food is achieving an estimated 40 percent crop productivity gain with the LumiGrow LED lights.

The Clean Fresh Food team learned of LumiGrow products during a campus tour featuring energy-efficient agricultural lighting at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since then, the team has installed 60 LumiGrow LED lights.

Clean Fresh Food grows various lettuce varieties along with swiss chard and microgreens. The food is grown without pesticides. A balanced aquaponic system provides organic fertilizer for the plants, which absorb the nutrients and clean the water before it is cycled back to the fish tanks.

Clean Fresh Food delivers produce the same day it is harvested by hand for maximum freshness and quality. Among the farm’s customers are fine dining restaurants and grocery stores in and around Madison, WI. Clean Fresh Food limits its customer base to a 50-mile radius to preserve its commitment to locally sourced and freshly harvested food.

“LumiGrow LED lights cost less to operate and deliver better performance than HID lights,” says Clean Fresh Food Owner Mike Knight. “Just as important to us is that these energy-saving lights are consistent with the sustainable practices that form the foundation of our farm.”

Clean Fresh Food Grower Matt Roth adds, “Our lettuce is noticeably much fuller since we installed LumiGrow LED lights in the middle of our Wisconsin winter. We only wished we’d installed them sooner.”

“We’re pleased to help Clean Fresh Food provide neighbouring businesses and families with healthy, locally grown produce all year long,” says LumiGrow CEO Kevin Wells.
