High pressure humidifier from QEP Holland provides optimal storage temperature

Since November 2013, the storage facilities of apple and pear cultivator Peter Minnaard have been humidified by means of a high-pressure humidifier. Through the high pressure of approximately 80bar and small nozzles, the humidity in the cell is maximally maintained using the smallest drops possible. In this way, dehydration during the cooling process is prevented. The small drops become easily entrained in the whirling of the fans without forming precipitation. In contrast to ultrasonic evaporators, with with high pressure humidification you know how much water you bring into the cell. Also you can choose to use bigger nozzles during the initial phase of cooling where the product is cooled down to the optimal storage temperature and traditionally most product weight is lost.

The most unique aspect of this installation is the ease with which the nozzles are assembled. These are linked to one another with a synthetic hose and snap couplings. The high pressure unit is cost effective, sturdy and energy efficient. Control of the valves for each department can be integrated into the storage computer or carried out by a valve controlling unit customized by QEP Holland.

Fruit Company Minnaard has 12 hectares of pears and 4 hectares of Elstar-apples. After harvesting, the pears and apples are stored in the ULO-storage facility for a number of months.

Following Fruit Company Minnaard more growers and commercial cooling companies have switched to a high-pressure humidifier by QEP Holland. This month a customized unit is being installed at an insect nursery.
