Arrigoni to be present at IPM and Fruit Logistica with insect protection

The introduction of new regulations concerning integrated and organic production makes it more difficult to choose the strategy to use in order to protect open field crops from insects and other types of parasites.

In open fields...
A method to reduce both insect and pollution problems is to cover crops with light and easy-to-use netting.

Biomaglia is ideal for this, thanks to its technical characteristics, as it reduces the attacks of insects without using chemical substances. In particular, it protects crops from aphids, leafhoppers, whiteflies and other types of flies and Lepidoptera in general.

Insects attack crops, affecting plants so much, that they can cause serious losses and spread viruses, so using nets leads to virus-free plants. Pesticides cannot always guarantee this, because sometimes insects transmit the virus before pesticides start to work.

The characteristics of this anti-insect net are:
  • the size of the holes, almost invisible to the naked eye (0.78 x 0.61mm). The net can in fact protect crops from insects measuring less than a millimetre, like for example thrips
  • its lightness, as it only weighs 19 g /m2
  • reduced shading, approx. 8%
  • elasticity which, combined with the fact that it is light, enables crops to grow without blocking them
  • protection from heavy rain, hail and wind
  • it can be mounted on props if necessary
In greenhouses...
The need to protect the crops from insects and viruses is even more compelling when cultivating in greenhouses, because often investments are bigger. This means crops must be protected from all kinds of insects, and especially from the smallest ones, i.e. thrips. This can be done using nets with thicker meshes, especially in greenhouses producing vegetables or ornamental plants and flowers.

80 Mesh is the ideal net for the job because, thanks to 31 threads/ cm2 warp and 15 threads/ cm2 weft, its holes measure 0.19 x 0.49 mm.
