Explore Bejo during the annual Open Days

Growers and partners from the chain are invited to explore Bejo’s vegetable crops and new varieties during the Open Days from Tuesday 25th to Saturday 29th September 2018.

Discover the latest varieties
New varieties with improved external characteristics, disease resistance, storage quality and taste can be seen for the first time in the demonstration fields. Highlights will be the new carrot variety Aranka, the kale variety Bejo 3055 and Redlander, a mildew-resistant red onion. In the lettuce assortment, the first six new organic lettuce varieties will also come under the spotlight.

In the innovative fruit crop tunnel, Bejo will present a varied assortment, including tomatoes, peppers and gherkins.

Bees, B-Mox and Businesses
Beekeepers will demonstrate the importance of bees and Bejo’s activities in bee breeding and bee health. In the product tent, attention will be drawn to the seed-enriching B-Mox in carrots and rooted parsley. The mechanisation exhibition will once again offer visitors the opportunity to gain extensive knowledge of the latest developments in the sector. Also, representatives will be on hand to advise and assist you.

Purple Power
This year, Bejo will introduce the Purple Power concept; purple vegetable varieties with a high level of vitamins and antioxidants. Purple sprouting broccoli ‘Burgundy’ is a unique variety that grows in 70 days from transplant. Moreover, the shoots of this purple sprouting broccoli can be fully harvested within a week. And how about that beautiful deep-red Manzu beetroot with Rhizomania resistance and Purple Sun carrots for the fresh market? Erasmus stands out as the first 100% male purple asparagus. A selection of purple-coloured varieties will also be used in the cookery demo, where flavour will be the main theme.

In addition, there will also be a focus on Bejo’s cabbage concept ‘Coolwrap’ and the ‘Cool Carrot Candy’ tasty carrots. New ideas will be presented for the supermarket and food processor for the marketing of kohlrabi and Brussels sprouts.

Taste, Health & Innovation 2018 – Brussels Sprouts Symposium
On Tuesday 25th September, Bejo will be holding the ‘Taste, Health & Innovation 2018 – Brussels Sprouts Symposium’; an inspiring and informative event for growers of sprouts from around the world. A wide variety of Brussels sprouts can be seen in the demonstration fields.

On Thursday 27th September, Bejo will be holding the ‘All about young plants symposium’, specifically aimed at international plant growers. Participation in both events is by invitation.

Experience Bejo via tours, app and escape room
A virtual escape room will take you into the world of some of Bejo’s disciplines. During the Open Days, you can also register for the Research Centre Tour and the Seed Quality Tour.

In addition to general information on the Open Days, the Bejo Experience App will now also provide you with descriptions of new varieties, with room for your own notes. You can follow all the news concerning activities and the latest innovations during the Open Days via the social media channels using #BZOD18.
