Mexico: Greenhouses, a way of life for the farmers of Morelos
The markets of Mexico are loud and colorful thanks to the people that visit them and the fruit and vegetables that arrive directly from the fields. Producers of fruit and vegetables dedicate their lives to making these products and, in the process, achieve having a fairly acceptable standard of living for their families and themselves.
Nowadays, due to the lack of water and variable temperatures, these producers have had to change the crops in the field for those produced in greenhouses. Some of the most important greenhouses in Mexico are in Morelos; they were built by a group of workers who discovered they were a way out of the lack of investment in the field that plagued them.
According to producers like Humberto Sandoval, "there is no investment in this region, and the products produced here are seasonal products, so the greenhouses allow the population to have a permanent income. We have been producers since we were children. We had to leave the region and study abroad, but now we have returned with the technological tools to improve the conditions of the field and of our colleagues."
Greenhouses have become a form of subsistence in the region of Morelos that is helping restore the countryside's life and improving the living conditions of the people who live there.
