Spain: CASI doubles acreage devoted to organic production

Leading tomato-growing cooperative CASI is doubling its acreage devoted to organic production, with a total of approximately 115 hectares. The BIO range features products like courgettes, on the vine tomatoes, Rebelión tomatoes, Dutch cucumbers, plum, cherry on the vine and loose tomatoes, bell peppers and mini watermelons.

CASI plans to continue increasing its organic production under the "Organic by CASI" brand. At the moment, the production in the conversion process, which will become organic in a year, is up by 30%, definitely allowing CASI to establish itself in this segment.

In the words of Ángel Gutierrez, responsible for the marketing of CASI's organic production, "In the latest campaign, CASI has marketed a total of approximately 7,000 tonnes of organic products; a notable increase compared to the previous season, and with better feedback from our buyers." He adds that "our commitment is to continue growing in an organised manner, meeting the demands of our customers and producers, so that CASI can also become a leader in organic production."

The Cooperative launched the Organic production project in 2015, relying from the start on a great human team specialised in the BIO production segment. This includes highly-experienced technicians, a centre in Níjar exclusively devoted to the handling of organic crops and a commercial team with a good knowledge of the "Organic by CASI" line. All of this should facilitate the growth of "Organic by CASI" and its consolidation in the sector.
