Bert van Herwijnen takes a step back

NL: Veha Plastics continues with new owners

Since March 2018, Bert van Herwijnen is no longer the face of Veha Plastics. Talentgroep Twente is the new owner of the wholesale company in plastic applications for greenhouse horticulture. Veha Plastics is mainly known as the importer of the market leader Dosatron dosing pump. Regina Nieuwmeijer, one of the three shareholders: "The acquisition guarantees the continuation of a real family business."

The history of Veha Plastics reportedly goes back to 1966. At that time it was Bert's father who ran the company. During the past say thirty years, it was Bert himself who was in charge of the company. After the takeover Bert will remain involved with Veha Plastics as an advisor, but he will take a step back and will be working less. Regina: "For larger projects we always can fall back on Bert. Also during the GreenTech it was great that he was there, after all, he is well known within the sector."

Doing well
Talentgroep Twente is a family business too, but it is considerably younger. Martin Nieuwmeijer, Regina Nieuwmeijer and Christian Lansink, the third shareholder, started their business in the autumn of 2016. Regina: "It is our aim to help companies from Twente with their business. It is not our intention to make just one company big, but rather to make a group of companies together stronger by means of cross-fertilization."

The acquisition of Veha Plastics is the fourth acquisition by Talentgroep Twente. Reldair, active in the field of air humidification in greenhouse horticulture, was one of the companies taken over previously. Whereas Reldair was in danger of going bankrupt, Veha Plastics is actually a well-running business. Regina: "During the takeover, Veha Plastics just continued working, so for the time being I will certainly stay involved with Veha. Only when a new entrepreneur to manage the business has been found I will distance myself."

The new entrepreneur may come from the Talenting Twente training program, in which young entrepreneurs are groomed to lead a company. Twice a year, passionate talents compete with each other, after which the winner of the competition is placed at the head of one of the companies within the Talent group. Regina: "Of course it is important that such a new entrepreneur has an affinity for the greenhouse horticulture sector."

Literally and figuratively more green
Also after the takeover, Veha Plastics will remain active in the field of plastic applications for glasshouse horticulture and as an importer of the Dosatron dosing pump. Regina: "In the short term not many changes will be made, but it is our intention to focus increasingly on sustainability. The Dosatron is really a top ranked brand and so we will continue in that direction. In addition, developments in greenhouse horticulture such as vertical farming, require more and more precision. Also there we see opportunities, just as abroad, where there is increasing demand for water dosing because of new cultivation methods." Beside the Dosatron, Veha Plastics will also continue to supply PVC pipes and fittings to large projects in, among other places, the Middle East.

Until recently, the Dosatrons were blue, but at the GreenTech exhibition the green Dosatrons were presented. Regina: "You could say that both literally and figuratively we are increasingly focusing on green. The new line of 'green' Dosatrons is more well suited for the processing of fertilizers."
