Government support in greenhouse production in order to stop the rise in inflation rates

Turkey Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekci: “The reason behind the rise of inflation rate in February is the increase in food prices. The inflation is above expectations especially due to the jump in fresh fruits and vegetables. This group has been identified as the group which contributes most to the rise in inflation rates therefore greenhouse production activities are included from now on into state incentive programs.

The incentives do not only cover greenhouse production but also the harvesting, storage, transportation processes are also included in the incentive programs. Furthermore, we intervene on customs taxes, monitor supply and demand along with production costs, domestic and international prices of products and the sustainability of the production. In addition, we also watch out for our growers to ensure their profitability and to make sure that the end consumers are not negatively impacted in their fresh product purchases due to Turkish currency losing its value against USD which consequently increases the prices of the imported goods at the market.”
