Kadyrov claims Chinese greenhouse vegetables absence of harmful chemicals

Chechnya locals believe that vegetables grown in the greenhouses rented by the Chinese producers are of low quality and harmful to one’s health. The authorities have claimed that this opinion is erroneous but have opened a hot line for any discrepancies to be reported. Ramzan Kadyrov, the Head of the Chechen Republic noted that a planned campaign is being carried out in the republic against greenhouse growers.

The authorities cover up for the producers, supposes a resident of Kaha Republic. “We didn’t have health issues like that before, even though we’ve had greenhouses as well as vegetables produced by the locals. The authorities would say, of course, that the gossip has no grounds as it’s beneficial for them”, remarked the lady who preferred to remain unknown.

“One doesn't have to be a specialist to realize that the produce of our greenhouses is of low quality. The tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers and aubergines are all watery, even though they look alright from the outside. We have a lot of greenhouses but for some reason the greenhouses that are rented by the Chinese get most of the claims”, notes the local resident, Aslanbek.

With that, the locals are confident that there will be no organized protests, as everyone is afraid of the complications with the authorities.

So far, no conflicts have been witnessed between the Chechnya locals and immigrants from China. The local authorities have reminded that all sorts of calls for public unrest in relation to the Chinese greenhouse workers is unlawful.

The Head of the Republic has announced that the information that has spread about the harmfulness of the greenhouse produce does not correspond to the reality. “A special committee has collected samples of soil, fertilizers, plant protection agents in the initial growth stage and when the crop was ripe. As the result of the tests conducted in independent laboratories, no violations have been found. All the produce is grown within the allowed limits and is not harmful to the health of the consumers”, announced Mr. Ramzan Kadyrov.

The Head of the republic assumed that there is an organized campaign against the growers and that the purpose of such campaign is to lower the demand of the produce. As it is most likely related to shady competition means, respective organizations were instructed to look into the matter.

The Council for the Economic and Public Safety of Chechnya has opened a hot line due to the recurring addresses of the local residents, perturbed by the quality of vegetable produce. Respective checks will be conducted on every case of such address.
