CAN (ON): Councillors consider MJ greenhouse proposal again

Officials from Green Organic Dutchman will be returning to Hamilton’s council chambers in an effort to get its proposal to expand its marijuana greenhouse operation approved even though councillors decided last week to limit the size of cannabis facilities on agricultural land.

Hamilton’s planning committee last month agreed to defer a decision, at the request of Ancaster Coun. Lloyd Ferguson, on whether to allow an application for a 13,000-square-metre marijuana grow operation on Jerseyville Road. If approved, the proposed facility would be seven times larger than the city’s now established 2,000-square-metre planning requirement, with a maximum lot coverage of 70 per cent.

Ferguson has called the proposal explosive and said it would open up Pandora’s Box if it was approved.

The issue is scheduled to be discussed at the July 10 planning committee meeting.
