Russia: Astrakhan gets modern tomato greenhouse

A modern tomato greenhouse will be constructed in Astrakhan, Russia. The project is now in the pre-investment stage, complex conception engineering is carried out. The administration of the city explains that the project is innovative for the area, as hydroponic cultivation will be used here for the first time.

Biological means of crop protection will be used, beneficial insects will be used for dealing with pests, therefore no dangerous chemicals will be needed. Application of the innovative technologies creates optimum conditions for the growth and development of plants, enabling higher productivity in shorter terms, irrespective of the weather conditions.

The project is aimed at import replacement and at meeting the Astrakhan region's demand in greenhouse tomatoes. Currently, tomatoes in the area are only grown in the open field, which leads to shortages between harvests. The produce will be sold in local and federal trade chains. With the project's realization, around 150 working places will be created.
