New horticulture grow lamp ensures higher output

Philips Lighting announced the introduction of the new 1000W GreenPower Xtra lamp for greenhouse horticulture. The lamp provides 4% more guaranteed growth light. This leads to a higher fruit yield and at the same time a reduced heat output. The new and extensively tested grow lamp has been available since April 2018. Various tests at well-known growers show that tomatoes grow faster under the new grow lamp than under the previous generations of grow lamps.

Erik van Nieuwkoop, senior manager at Agro Care (the Netherlands): "The new grow lamps increase our yield by 5% and thus the production per square meter, while the costs remain the same." Paul Stoffels from Stoffels Tomatoes (Belgium): "After a few weeks we noticed that the weight of the tomatoes increased, in some weeks even by up to 6%. Each crop week is, of course, different. In any case, the results with the GreenPower Xtra 1000W are very surprising. That is why we are looking forward to the promising long-term results."

Dirk Smeyers, global product manager HID Professional at Philips Lighting: "Our search for the improvement of our horticulture grow lamps continues unabated. It is fascinating to see that our technological innovations lead to better cultivation, faster growth and a tastier product. In this way we create a win-win situation for both growers and consumers who are offered a better product, and ourselves as a 'leader in lighting'."

Technical details
The GreenPower Xtra 1000W delivers with 2,150 micromoles per second a much higher light output than its predecessor, the GreenPower Plus 1000W. At the same time, the new grow lamp emits less heat, which means that the greenhouse temperature can be controlled better. With the new GreenPower Xtra 1000W, growers achieve a higher yield and shorter growth cycles, while the quality of the fruit is of consistent high quality due to the unique light recipe. Since its appearance on the market in 2005, the GreenPower range has achieved a top position in greenhouse horticulture. The GreenPower Xtra 1000W often considerably exceeds the indicated number of light hours to even a doubling. The GreenPower Xtra 1000W fits the luminaires commonly used in greenhouse horticulture.
