China: Shandong vegetable prices increase

A recent survey by the Lanling Price Bureau shows that the prices of many vegetables in Lanling have increased in comparison with the same period last year. Some vegetable prices have even doubled. The three main reasons for this development are as follows:

1. The current vegetable production volume decreased a lot in comparison with the same period last year. The current production volume suffered from poor weather conditions and falls far short from the production volume last year. Insufficient production volume is the main cause of the price increase.

2. Certain top-quality vegetable products raise the average vegetable price. Top-quality products such as Qingpao peppers, sponge gourds, bitter gourds, and potatoes, have all recently arrived on the market and their quality is exceptional. Traders show much interest in these top-quality vegetable products, which in turn drives up their price.

3. There is much demand from other parts of the country. Lanling is the southern vegetable garden of Shandong and their vegetable products are sold throughout the country. Vigorous demand from other parts of the country drives up the price of vegetables in Lanling.
