Visser developed the AutoStix system to automate the labor-intensive process of the sticking of cuttings. The system consists of a patented transplanter and a compatible special patented strip and tray that complete the system and create a turnkey concept. The AutoStix machine is capable of processing 10,000 cuttings per hour.
Open Source
Since AutoStix is an open source system, other programs were developed based on AutoStix last season. "Using our carrier, other companies introduced spin-off innovations during CAST", the Visser team tells. "The strip can now be used for even more applications, such as the automatic transplanting of rooted cuttings." For example, Dümmen Orange independently developed Basewell cuttings: Basewell bare-root cuttings feature advanced root development and no growing media. This makes it possible to ship Basewell products to growers from off-shore production locations, ready to transplant directly into the finish container. The AutoStix strip and the AutoStix transplanter allow for a highly efficient process.
New 51-ST strip
Besides the optimizations of the 51 strip and 34 strip, AutoStix also introduces the 51-ST strip this season. This new strip has been designed with the specific needs of thin and short stems in mind, like New Guinee impatiens.

To complete the festivities, the AutoStix has been nominated for two awards at the internationally leading Horticultural Trade Show GreenTech. AutoStix was nominated in two categories: The Innovation Award and the Impact Award. "We are very proud to be recognized in our efforts to improve & innovate horticulture!"
