Syngenta:

Many Gina bell peppers coming from third planting

The most recent period was characterized by mixed conditions in terms of light and energy usage, and for a long time light levels were below those of 2017 (March and April). Moreover, February caused strong initial growth due to good light. This resulted in many crops having difficulty with further growth, due to the higher energy demand of the growing fruit. It also resulted in a settlement pattern with more flowers.

In week 10, 11 and 12 there was hardly any flowering, but after that the growth came back and with it the settlement. One company came into imbalance because of this. Syngenta: "Gina's strength was clearly visible during this period by quickly creating growth again."

Current situation
Planting 2 has been completed and they are now fully harvesting from planting 3. It's important to harvest evenly so that Gina stays in balance.

The fruits of Gina have a different way of coloration: the color changes from green to light brown/orange to red. The light brown/orange is a really colorful stage and should not be mistaken with an orange color. After two days the fruits turn simply red and there is hardly any difference in color with other varieties.

Looking ahead
Keeping a balance should ensure maximum plant load and energy distribution to the fruits instead of the crop. This requires generative guidance, and for example fruits should not be allowed to hang too deep in the crop.

With an increase in light, the crop becomes stronger. It therefore remains important to look at the crop and to control the climate accordingly. For Gina this means the same as for the other varieties, namely generative steering.

Keep the side shoots short, because the head thickness is already sufficient. After the summer solstice the growth will come naturally, so no extra measures are necessary.

In the afternoon the temperature may rise to 27ºC, and it should not decrease below 19ºC at night (pre-night 17ºC), and be at day temperature well before sunrise. This ensures good fruit quality and health.
Due to the natural coarseness (high fruit weight) of bell peppers, it is not necessary to force this. Harvest in the morning.

In the case of strong transitions to summery weather, using screens is an option. But screen only at peaks or at a generative crop position. A diffuse screen or a diffuse coating can also contribute to this. The best thing is to monitor the fruit temperature.
