"Rising cost of both water and electricity influences quality and quantity of crops"

With the GreenTech coming up in June we're getting in touch with several horticultural know-it-alls, entrepreneurs, innovators and general greenhouse geeks. Today we present you Dick van Regteren of Genap. "Modern and well equipped greenhouses with high educated and loyal management have the future endlessly", he states.

What is your contribution to the advancement of the global horticulture industry?
In our subjective view we would like to emphasize the importance of (rain) water harvesting and preventing algae growth and evaporation of precious water globally. In The Netherlands water is relatively cheap and available. But we look further than our own boundaries. We know from our experience that in the different horticulture areas water is not abundant and for sure not cheap. We intent to serve our horti customers with reliable and economic solutions for storing their water needs.

What would you say is the most important topic in horticulture at the moment?
We foresee a shortage in reliable water supply and the rising cost of both water as electricity globally. This topic will and already does influence the quality and quantity of the crops.

What will you be doing at the GreenTech? Will you present any novelties during the trade show?
As we have been an exhibitor from the start we will continue exhibiting at the most advanced and well known trade show in the horticulture. For growers who are looking for the best and most innovative available techniques and state of the art solutions we cordially invite them to come and visit Greentech 2018 and pay a visit to our booth and discuss with us their needs for more reliable and economic water harvesting systems. Besides our HQ in The Netherlands we have production and services facilities in Nairobi Kenya and opening the same in North East India this summer. We also have a sales office in the Mid East based in Dubai.

What project that you’re currently involved in are you most proud of?
To mention one is difficult as we are working on a number of projects at the moment eg. in China, India and of course in Holland. One outstanding project is a project we currently execute in the North of Kenya. A number of farms are being revitalized in order to secure food security in a desolate and poor hot area. Our keen interest is taking care of bore holes to gather water from the deep through our water storage systems the water is treated and via drip irrigation given to the crops. In the desert in North Kenya one will find an oasis which grows food for the local people.

How do you see the future of horticulture?
The future of horticulture is obvious, it is bright. The world population is growing to astronomic dimensions and all these people need nutrition. Modern and well equipped greenhouses with high educated and loyal management have the future endlessly.
