Ghana: Tomato farmers threaten suicide over importations
The farmers are appealing to the government to indeed prevent the import of tomatoes from Burkina Faso. That would ensure that Ghanaian tomato farmers have ready markets for their produce all year round, saving them from losses.
As reported by ghanaweb.com, some peasant farmers are having it really hard, as many of them cannot repay the loans they incurred. Mr. Baffour Afrifa, Chairman of the Federation of Tomatoes Growers Association Ghana, said the current market prices have left the majority of farmers in a state of anxiety.
