Turkey: Cucumber harvest kicks off in Batman

The residents of Balpinar town in Batman, a city located on the southeast border of Turkey, have started the harvest of cucumbers.

Eyup Tekin, a grower in the town: “Agricultural and animal breeding are the main sources of income in our town. I have been a greenhouse grower for 4 years now. We purchased seedlings from Antalya in mid-March. Afterwards, intensive labor was used in the growing phase which lasts around 30-40 days. After that we can harvest the products. A greenhouse of 10,000 square feet is more than enough for an entire family to live off and the mayor has been especially supportive of all the greenhouse investments so we are very thankful for that. Generally we are very satisfied with the productivity and return on our investments.”
