Germany: Domestic cucumber supply currently dominates

Germany clearly dominated events in the cucumber business, more so than the Netherlands and Belgium. Supply was limited, but the demand could still be satisfied most of the time.

Price quotations tended to rise frequently: in Berlin and Munich due to demand, in Frankfurt due to higher entry prices. In Munich, Dutch and Belgian products became more expensive, in such a way that the domestic batches slipped more and more into the customers’ focus. In Cologne, only qualitatively perfect goods could be accommodated without problem. Only in Hamburg prices wavered for a moment.

Mini-cucumbers came mainly from the Netherlands and inland Germany. Steady sales generally made for constant prices.

Apples
The overseas range continued to diversify, with first New Zealand Braeburn and Kanzi and South African Granny Smith and Kanzi arriving. Interest in lots from the southern hemisphere was somewhat subdued in places.

Pears
The range of goods clearly narrowed. Demand was calm and steady, at times weaker than before. The quotations remained mostly constant.

Table grapes
Availability was limited. Overall, bright and seedless varieties were the focus of interest. Demand was not particularly high, so that the marketers did not rasie prices, so as not to influence the market.

Strawberries
Due to the summery weather, enormous domestic quantities came to the markets. In many places, demand could not keep up with large supply.

Kiwis
Italy dominated, France and Greece completed supplies. Later, supply shrank a little, but there was usually sufficient produce to meet all needs.

Oranges
The end of season is imminent, which can be gathered from the reduced supply, diminished interest and declining quality.

Lemons
The change of sorts from old Primofiori to fresh Verna was already in full swing in some places and prices rose accordingly.

Bananas
As usual, supply was adjusted to storage options. These had not changed significantly compared to the previous week.

Cauliflower
France dominated, Germany and Belgium complemented the market. Domestic offers, which gradually grew, from time to time suffered from cabbages that were on the light side.

Lettuce
The presence of native iceberg lettuce grew considerably, especially in Munich. This product could be sold off quickly in Berlin, supported by discounts.

Tomatoes
The Netherlands and Belgium dominated the ranges, with Italy and Spain completing them. The shops were actually doing quite well: a steady demand usually kept previous prices at the same levels. In some places, the prices could even be raised slightly.

Sweet peppers
The Netherlands dominated, then came Turkey and Belgium. With rising temperatures and a weather that stimulated a barbecue, there was increased interest. Sales were brisk.

Asparagus
A much too abundant availability up to the weekend characterized the 19. KW: The summery weather provided for extensive domestic supplies, which could hardly be accommodated in the market square.

Onions
Vegetable onions came from Spain and Chile, household goods came primarily from New Zealand and Germany. Sales went quite evenly, so that sellers rarely saw the need to modify their prices.
