Turkey: Lifting of Russian restrictions affects domestic tomato prices

The decision by Russia to lift the restrictions on tomato exports from Turkey caused tomato prices to fluctuate in the local market.

Mersin Erdemli Chamber of Commerce Chairman Rasim Sahin: “We were waiting for 2 years to have these restrictions on tomatoes lifted. Finally it happened. This has created another market for our growers’ products and it consequently increased the prices on local market. The prices went up around 33 % from 0.30 USD to 0.40 USD per kg. This made our growers very happy and we are hoping that this increase will continue.”
