US: Vegetable breeder launches two new celery lines

Tozer Seeds America brings forward two newer celery lines, Hudson and Rivalry, which the company says show excellent yield and field holding ability. These two newer lines are both main season onwards varieties, both showing excellent fusarium tolerance.

The TZ6200 continues to be Tozer’s lead variety with wide adaptability. This is a standard green variety ideal for mid-season plantings onwards. According to the company, it performs extremely well, continuously producing heavy yields.

“Our new celery lines, Hudson and Rivalry, are expected to perform just as well as our lead varieties,” said Kraig Kuykendall, sales manager of Tozer Seeds America. “Our breeding program is very closely linked to the needs of the various market requirements and we have varieties tailored to production and market preference around the world.”

"Tozer led the development of the world’s first commercial hybrid celery with the release of Victoria in the 1980s," he continued. "This celery is earlier with maturity allowing for it to be quicker to harvest and has better weight. Since then, Tozer has maintained its status as the world leader in the development of new celery varieties breeding for yield, resistance to bolting, field holding ability, disease resistance and good flavor."
