China: Pepper prices drop 30% because of warmer weather

Vegetable prices tend to decrease as the weather becomes warmer. The most recent data from Xinfadi Market shows that the current average vegetable price per kg is 2.55 yuan [0.40 USD]. This is a decrease of 9.89% in comparison with the average price of the previous sample period. The pepper price dropped by as much as 30%. The pepper price maintained a high position last winter and this spring because the surface area devoted to pepper plantations in Hainan was reduced and the weather was overcast and rainy. Now, however, peppers from northern production areas are arriving on the market in large volumes. This has caused a sudden drop in the price of peppers.
