Turkey doesn’t accept Russian tomato quota

The Turkish government is “absolutely” opposed to the Russian restrictions on the import of Turkish tomatoes, according to the Minister of Economic Affairs in Turkish media. “We are absolutely opposed to only a limited selection of companies gaining access. If necessary, we can do the same thing, we can also choose companies,” said the minister.

In October 2017, Russia signed a decree that lifted all sanctions on the import of tomatoes from Turkey, although the Kremlin did implement a quota for tomatoes. That quota is still in effect. According to the Turkish minister, Turkey won’t accept Russia selecting, accrediting or certifying export companies. He indicates Turkey currently registers all imports from Russia. “There’s only one reason to do so. If necessary, we can do the same to them,” said the minister.
