Boer den Hoedt moving to Dinteloord

The production company Boer den Hoedt from Ridderkerk, which grows lettuce on hydroculture, is moving its activities to Nieuw Prinsenland in Dinteloord. For this purpose the company recently bought 9.3 ha ground from the Tuinbouwontwikkelingsmaatschappij (Horticulture Developmental Association) to build greenhouses.

Boer den Hoedt has to make place for the development of the industrial site Nieuw Reijerwaard in Ridderkerk. This move, however, offers the company the opportunity to expand its unique growing system to 6 ha. This area will be realized in 2 phases.

Boer den Hoedt grows on water rather than ground. The most important advantage of this growing system is that it is able to supply crops all year round at constant quality, which is partly made possible by use of lighting in the winter months. The lettuce can also be supplied with root ball, which keeps much longer and decorates your kitchen. The root ball makes export to countries outside the EU possible, because the shelf life is expanded and freshness guaranteed.

Boer den Hoedt is a family company with 15 employees. With this sale the last plot in the area has been sold, and in a couple of years 200 ha of greenhouses will have been built on the 260 ha lot.

Tuinbouwontwikkelingsmaatschappij (TOM) is a developmental company of the province of Brabant and NCB-Development (a company associated with the ZLTO).
The association has been active since 2002 in North Brabant with restructuring the greenhouse cultivation. Besides the location in Dinteloord the association participates in the greenhouse project in Deurne and has contributed to the reorganization and moving of companies from vulnerable areas.
