A theatre play among cucumbers and tomatoes

The greenhouse of Hartman Kwekerij in Sexbierum, Friesland, is currently being converted into a theatre. From April 13 to May 20, a play will be performed called Lost in the Greenhouse.

"Lost in the Greenhouse is the story of the young Polish man Wojtek, told from the moment when his mother convinces him that he has no future in Poland, until his dramatic end."

It is also the story of Freek, the boss of the greenhouses. His world is clear. "Man differs less from the cucumber than we think, both of which thrive in a lot of light and a good night's sleep!"

The story is set against the background of a rapidly changing society, the increasing labour migration and people leaving the countryside in large numbers.

The main roles are for Leopold Witte, Redbad Klijnstra, Maartje van de Wetering, Erik van der Horst and Emilia Komarnicka, who’s very popular in Poland. Together with local amateurs, HaFaBras from Friesland and Radek Fedyk’s band, they tell this compelling story in a decor that was specially cultivated for this occasion.

The premiere will take place on Thursday, April 19, 2018.
