Maarten van der Leede and Ben Zwinkels
All segments were represented. We will introduce you to a number of varieties.
Maarten van der Leede is happy to show us the advantages of Trovanzo. Trovanzo is a coarse vine tomato and is making waves within this segment. Last year this variety was marketed under the name 72-762 RZ. Last week it was named Trovanzo. The first 10 hectares are now being grown commercially. Maarten: "The production is comparable with the current standard. So that's a good start. The big advantage of Trovanzo is that this tomato also has a nice red colour. This makes it look more attractive." Compared to the standard variety the Trovanzo starts production early. And this is important, particularly in the cultivation under light.
Jos Exsel from Strijbeek and Harry Augustijn catch up
The varieties that are in colour mix in the snack segment, have different colours. This segment continues to develop. And this is needed. The consumer now knows the mixes, but hasn't embraced them. Johan Solleveld of Rijk Zwaan: "There is still a lot to do in this segment. We believe that colour makes another promise over flavour. Or: the colour has to match the flavour. This is where our task lies as a breeder."
Johan Solleveld with a visitor from Bakker Barendrecht
In the vine cherry segment it is all about flavour. The 72-008 RZ has it. Ben Zwinkels: "This variety also has a good appearance in uniformity and colour. They are very satisfactory. At the moment 72-008 RZ is still being tested. We expect to be able to place the first hectares commercially next year."
The presentation area was suitably decorated.
