Dutch cuke grower cultivates completely organically

De Noordhoek is an organic nursery where diseases and pests are controlled with natural pesticides only. Ladybugs are used for example to manage lice and the Ichneumonidae wasp is used to keep away the white fly. Good insects eat the harmful ones. The nursery uses only organic manure and compost. In organic cultivation no harmful residues of pesticides remain in or on the products.

Traditional cultivation plants grow on substrates. At De Noordhoek they are firmly planted in the ground instead. "The plant has to make more effort to find water, which makes the fruit grow slower, and the plant can also absorb a lot more nourishment from the soil, so the fruits contain less water and more nutrients. Because at De Noordhoek, cucumbers and tomatoes grow the way nature does.
