Spain wants €288 million CAP for growers

The Spanish ministry of Agriculture and Fishing, Food and Environment (MAPAMA) has requested the European Commission (EC) to finance the active programmes of the producers organisations in the fruit and vegetable sector.

It concerns an amount of €288 million, of which €27 million will be used for measure to prevent and control crisis policy on the market. This will total more than 9% of the total amount.

Help
Spain is the second European member to receive this aid (25% of the total of the European Union) after Italy. The definitive financial contribution will be around 85% of the amount. 492 producers organisations divided over the 15 autonomous regions will use this aid.

This year the expected subsidy requests will rise by 7% compared to 2017. Looking at the average of the last five years this is 22%. The amounts to prevent and control crisis policy rose by 16% more in 2018 compared to 2017 and 34% more than the average.

Action points
The fund came to be with the aid of the European Union and through contribution from the trade organisations. Action points that are carried out by the fund are improvement of the production-infrastructure, as well as improvement of the quality and research and environment. They are 50% compensated for with this European fund. A limit of 4.1% of the value of the production sold by each organisation is maintained.

Last week it was announced that the Netherlands is requesting less CAP subsidies than ever before.
