"Ultimately everyone has the same goal: to increase the yield"

"A good start to produce something beautiful in the coming harvest," Jacco Peene summarizes the Crop Science tour of Alltech. On January 30 and 31, the originally American company invited Dutch growers and farmers for the introduction of soil improvers and plant enhancers.

Jacco Peene informs those present about the Alltech products

During the tour there were three presentation rounds, which focused on agriculture, fruit cultivation and horticulture. "For the growers, two things stood out: the reduction of the chemical residue in the crops and how to deal with disease pressure," says sales manager Jacco Peene. "Our approach to soil life turned out to be of interest for the growers. Especially with the growing attention for soil diseases, which occur quite often, it was interesting for them to see how we revitalize the soil and reduce soil diseases."

Universal products
Alltech offers an assortment of six products that have been developed over the past decades. "In the development of the products, we have taken a combination of factors into account. Our products can help crops with several aspects and they work well with existing spraying programs. Only few additional actions are involved. After all, convenience helps people.”

"Whether you are a greenhouse grower, fruit grower or arable farmer, ultimately everyone has the same goal: to increase the yield. The fact that our products increase the yield by more than 6% to 8% on average, that is important for growers."

Good reactions
"One point that surprised the growers was that our European technical manager advised a leaf spraying with potassium about 4 to 6 weeks before the moment of harvesting, for example to increase the underwater weight of potatoes.”

Yield = G * E * M
"We posed the various groups the question what 3 things are most important for achieving the highest possible marketable yield. When we mentioned the yield formula for this: 'Yield = G (enetics) * E (nvironment) * M (anagement)', this was zealously copied." Jacco explains: "The G stands for Genetics and is the starting material for the harvest. The E stands for Environment and covers all environmental factors. So it covers climate and soil and everything that goes with it. The M is for Management and represents all the actions that a grower performs to get the best possible end result."

Conclusion and follow-up
Jacco is satisfied with the results of the first tour. "The first customers presented themselves. It was appreciated by the various groups of growers. I think that we will do more such presentations in the future."

The Crop Science tour was mainly directed at exchanging knowledge and to introduce the products in the Netherlands. "We already have more than 25 years of experience in the world with the performance of our products. The days of only testing grounds is gone. We are ready for the next step in the Netherlands: companies that are going to use our products. We can talk a lot about it, but ultimately the product itself has to do its work," Jacco concludes.
