NL: New lightweight and insulating roof system for water tanks

In recent months, Buwatec has been part of an innovative project commissioned by Chaincraft Amsterdam. Buwatec has supplied storage tanks for this project for the fermentation of vegetables and fruit leftovers. In total this contract comprises seven storage tanks and four tanks that are equipped with the new lightweight roof system. The development of new roofs is a priority for Buwatec, according to Jan-Piet Kastelein. ''We are constantly working to see how we can cover the tanks in the best possible way. Market demand is high, also for tanks with insulating roofs. With this lightweight and insulating roof we can offer a good solution for this challenge in horticulture, but it's certainly also applicable for industrial applications''.

Water tanks
The new lightweight roof, called BUWAcap, is a solution for the complete closure of medium-sized water tanks for horticulture and industry. Unique to the roof system is the lack of a support column. The aluminum roof construction is structurally supported by an aluminum reinforcement tube at the inside of the tank wall. Insulated roof plates are installed between the rafters, so that the roof is closed watertight.

The BUWAcap protects the water in the tank from sand, dust, leaves, seeds and bird droppings. This in turn improves the quality of the stored water. A very important feature is that the BUWAcap prevents algae growth in the water. The unique system is a modular solution for the complete coverage of water tanks.
