Lithuania and China strengthen bilateral agricultural cooperation

Chinese Vice Minister Yu Xinrong met with Lithuanian Vice Minister of Agriculture Mr. Rolandas Taraškevičius in Vilnius, Lithuania on the morning of 14 August 2017. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening bilateral agricultural cooperation.

Vice Minsiter Yu noted that in recent years, great achievements have been made in China-Lithuania agricultural cooperation. The two sides have witnessed improvement in economic ties, steady growth of agricultural trade and deepened partnership. China appreciates Lithuania’s bid for the 13th Agro-trade and Economic Cooperation Forum between China and Central-Eastern European Countries (CEECs) in 2018 and wishes it a great success to facilitate agricultural cooperation between China and CEECs.

Vice Minister Yu said that China and Lithuania should fully capitalize on multilateral mechanisms like “16+1” (China-CEECs) and the Belt and Road Initiative to jointly boost bilateral and multilateral agricultural trade and investment cooperation.

Mr. Taraškevičius fully agreed with Vice Minister Yu and said that the two countries are highly complementary in the agricultural sector with broad prospects for cooperation. Lithuania is willing to work with the Chinese side to push for new achievements in bilateral agricultural cooperation.

After the meeting, the two sides signed the Act Plan on Agricultural Cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture of China and the Ministry of Agriculture of Lithuania 2018-2020.
