NL: Rijk Zwaan buys extra parcel in Dinteloord

Seed breeder Rijk Zwaan has increased its acreage in the Dutch greenhouse horticulture area Nieuw Prinsenland with more than 23 hectares. Together with the purchase of 26 hectares in 2015, the company now owns 49 hectares of land. With this spacious, continuous parcel of land, Rijk Zwaan wants to further expand and optimize its breeding and seed production of vegetable crops.

Last ten percent
The purchase by Rijk Zwaan is the third major transaction for the TOM (Horticulture Development Company) at New Prinsenland this year. In addition to the sale to Lans of over 44 hectares and 25 hectares to tomato nursery van Marrewijk, sales have now reached 183 hectares of sold parcels. For another 50 hectares options have been signed. Of the 260 allocatable hectares, only 27 hectares are still available for sale.

In New Prinsenland, also the tomato nurseries of RedStar and of Jan van Marrewijk and eggplant nursery De Jong have been established as well.

De Lier, Fijnaart and Dinteloord
In addition to the headquarters in De Lier, Rijk Zwaan has a branch in Fijnaart, at approximately 10 km from the purchased lots in Dinteloord.
The family company Rijk Zwaan has some 2,800 employees, of which 1,200 in the Netherlands. The main reasons for Rijk Zwaan to realize expansion in Dinteloord are the spacious, well-accessible plots near its branch in Fijnaart and the possibility to build greenhouses.

The Horticulture Development Company (TOM) is a development company of the province of North Brabant and NCB Development (a company associated with the ZLTO). The TOM has been active in North Brabant since 2002 in the restructuring of greenhouse horticulture. In addition to the location in Dinteloord, the TOM participates in Deurne's greenhouse horticulture project and has contributed to the remediation and relocation of companies from vulnerable areas.
