Dutch cucumber growers expands lit acreage

The choice for lighting has been taken in consultation with Tieleman's growers' association Kompany. "We will be in production as early as January and our season will last till October," says René. "It's a matter of time but I estimate more retailers want Dutch product in the future. Supplemental lighting will allow us to meet that demand."

Tielemans Groentekwekerij Boekel has two cultivation sites. One of the locations is already partially lit. Based on the gained experience, they will also lit the new location. "Soon we will have lights on 5 hectares, which is almost half our cucumber acreage," saya René. In the fall, the growers replaces the cucumber crop with tomatoes. 

The choice has been made for the Gavita fixtures. This has to do with the offered total package. Beside the quality of the fixtures and the pleasant cooperation with the representatives, ease of use was important in the choice. "It's easy to remove and reinstall the fixtures," says Dennis Janmaat, account manager at Gavita. "Moreover, we provide a solid storage system to keep the lamps safe during the summer season."
