France: New concept to facilitate fruit and cherry tomato consumption

In order to facilitate fresh fruit and cherry tomato consumption, French company Marroig Primeurs has launched a brand new concept. Their Fru&Tube is a transparent plastic tube containing fresh whole fruit and cherry tomatoes. Anthony Marroig, Sales Manager of the family-run company describes the concept of their products as “sweets of nature”, aimed at the snacking and “easy” to consume fruit and cherry tomato market.

The tubes of fruit come with a disposable cloth to wipe certain fruits before consumption, or for peaches, for example, to clean ones hands after. Their School Selection range of Fru&Tube is aimed directly at school children as a healthy snack.

The fruit is sourced from regions known for growing quality produce, the company claims. The peaches and nectarines, for example, come from the Murcia and Badajoz regions of Spain, or the Roussillon and Provence regions in France.

Commercialisation started when the first order under contract came through on the 2nd April this year and the product is still being tested in supermarkets. It can be found directly in the fresh fruit and vegetable aisles and the RRP will vary from €1.50-€3 depending on the product and format.
