Netherlands: 90 hectares of Sweetpoint certified with Eco label

The Eco-label certified acreage of Dutch producers' organization DOOR grows by 20 hectares through the certification of all Sweetpoint production sites. The total acreage now amounts to 90 hectares.

"The further sustainability of production is a focal point of DOOR and all its affiliated growers. Various measures in the fields of energy, water, resources and 100% use should eventually ensure a fully sustainable production", DOOR reports. "Because the Eco-label criteria relate to the entire life cycle of a product or service, this certification closely matches the set goals."

Eco-labeling is one of the guides that DOOR uses to further reduce the environmental pressure of its products. An important advantage of the Eco-label for affiliated growers is the offered insight whether they have become more sustainable. This progress can be measured by comparing the results with those of previous years. According to Jordy van der Lans - quality manager at SweetPoint - this insight also improves the awareness of the employees at the production sites. "Especially in the area of efficient energy and water consumption," says Jordy.

"Sustainability is expected by our customers," explains Els Weerdenburg, quality manager at DOOR. "Meeting the wishes and demands of our customers is for us an important motivation to join the Eco-label. We regularly receive questions about sustainability activities of our growers. The quality policy of DOOR has therefore been directed to proactively respond to the current and future wishes of the customer."
