EU: Largest part of supportive measures for Russian boycott already used

Some member states have already exhausted the full scope for intervention measures related to the Russian boycott. Other countries have already claimed more than 75 per cent of available volumes. This is evidenced by the minutes of the meeting of the Expert Group and Management Committee for GMO Fruit and Vegetables.

Some 127,000 tonnes are still available within the current regulations. These measures have been in effect since July 2016. In April, 8,800 tonnes of fruit and vegetables, with a value of three million euro, were taken off the market within this measure. Apples, peaches, tangerines and pears make up the list of products taken off the market most often. The list of countries consists of Spain, Belgium, Italy, Greece and Portugal.

During the meeting, one of the member states said the supportive measures might not have much effect anymore because of frost. The European Commission ruled it’s still too early to make any verdicts about this, considering damages are still being assessed, and some damages aren’t immediately visible. Besides, according to the Commission, these are different dossiers.
