Kuwait bans fruit and veg imports from three Arab countries
Kuwait has banned the importation of some vegetables and fruits from three Arab countries: Egypt, Jordan and Oman.
The ban, issued by Kuwait's Minister of Trade and Industry, Khalid Al-Rawdhan, includes onion, guava and lettuce from Egypt and cauliflower and cabbage from Jordan and the islands of Oman.
The reason for the application of this ban has been the alleged presence of pesticide residues above the permissible limits, according to Anatolia.
The resolution also enforces the need for a certificate of analysis approved by the exporting country to be attached to the rest of agricultural crops not covered by the ban, confirming that pesticide residues don't exceed the permitted levels.
For their part, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the UAE also recently banned the entry of some types of vegetables and fruits from four Arab countries: Egypt, Oman, Jordan and Lebanon, as of 15 May.
