Italy: Lamboseeds develops project based on vegetable colour

Seed company Lamboseeds combined its strength with that of some leading companies in northern and southern Italy such as Lorenzini Naturamica di Sermide (Mantua), Il Castello di Stanghella (Padua) and OP San Rocco di Leverano (Lecce), to launch a project, simple to understand, yet with a complex content.

The slogan is "your well-being passes through our vegetables." Companies decided to address consumers directly through a palette of colours linked directly to the nutritional properties of the products.

The red colour of tomatoes and mini-watermelons symbolises lycopene, green symbolises cynarin, purple symbolises alpha lipoic acid and orange symbolises beta-carotene.

As explained by Sandro Colombi, sales director for Lamboseeds, "the biomolecules contained in our products are a qualifying element in our dialogue with consumers. Retailers liked our initiative as well, as it is very easy to understand."

Thanks to Lamboseeds genetics and the cultivation experience of the companies who are part of the project, tests were carried out and hybrids providing clear results were selected.

"We believe the cooperation between seed companies, producers and distributors provides added value. Volumes available are good and we also have some good ideas regarding packaging!"

Lamboseeds was founded in 2003 in Sant'Agata Bolognese (BO) and relies on an agent network covering all of Italy as well as on a group of researchers and technicians. Other than watermelons (its Minirossa are quite popular), it invests a lot also in peppers and tomatoes.
