Spanish produce slowly leaving UK market
According to the latest data provided by market intelligence service ProduceView, Spanish cucumbers are currently only offered by discounter Lidl at a price of 49p. Waitrose, M&S and Asda have British cukes in stock and Aldi, Co-op, Morrisons, Sainsbury and Tesco offer Dutch cucumbers. The average price for a cucumber is 50p. The highest priced cucumbers can be found at Co-op for 59p and the lowest priced for 49p at Aldi and Lidl.
In mixed bell peppers, Spain is also slowly disappearing from the marketplace. Dutch mixed peppers are now offered by Sainsbury, Asda, M&S. The British peppers are on the shelves of Morrisons and Waitrose. Only Lidl and Aldi still offer Spanish peppers, while Co-op offers a mix of Dutch and Spanish bell peppers.
Round tomatoes are offered from Spain, Morocco and Holland this week. For a classic pack of 6 Moroccan tomatoes you'd pay 69p at Asda. Co-op offers the same pack from Spain at 69p as well. Waitrose, Aldi and Lidl offer Dutch round tomatoes at a price of respectively 75p, 65p and 67p per pack of six.
