New 7-layer films allow long lasting Anti-drip and easier installation

Greek plastic films manufacturer Plastika Kritis is introducing two new products that allow better humidity management and more easier installation of double inflated greenhouses.

The two new products are a direct result of the 7-layer extrusion line that Plastika Kritis operates since 2015. Export manager Dimitrios Doukas said that the 7-layer films made with this new extrusion line are gaining ground. "The 7-layer film technology was engineered and specially developed to incorporate new features that bring more value to the end user."

Long lasting anti condense

One of those new products is the EVO AC greenhouse film. This film is characterized by its long lasting anti-dripping and anti-fogging capabilities. It is an answer to the growing demand for anti drip and anti fog films.

Doukas explained that anti condense films are common widely used in order to cope with condensation as a result of temperature differences between the two sides of the film. This condensation and its fog does not only increase the humidity and risk for harmful fungal diseases, but also allows less light to enter the greenhouse and decreases growth. Anti-drip (AD) additives in the plastic film can solve this problem, however many of the additives loose their effectiviness after 1,5 to two years. This is also the case for the Anti-fogging additives in the film which are designed to decrease the formation of fog. It is a common problem that these additives migrate to the surface of the film and gradually disappear, hence the films loses its anti-drip and anti misting properties.

"Our new 7-layer EVO AC greenhouse films are made with a new technology that results to an anti-dripping and anti-fogging effect that lasts for a much longer time", Doukas said. "Especially in very cold climates where classic Anti-dripping & Anti-mist solutions often fail to perform, EVO AC has demonstrated great effectiveness. This long lasting Anti-dripping and Anti-mist technology allows professional growers to use the same film over a longer period, as they won’t suffer from the early loss of these important properties."

Easier installation of double poly

Another important innovation as a result of the 7-layer film extruder at Plastika Kritis is the EVO2 Greenhouse Film designed for easier and faster installation of double layered greenhouse films. "Hi-tech greenhouse farms with double inflated covers come with extensive film installation and replacement costs. As well as this it is not easy to install the film in compliance with the necessary safety standards."

Intensive R&D at Plastika Kritis, coupled with the capabilities of its new 7-layer technology, made it possible to develop EVO2, a de-laminatable film for double inflated greenhouses. This film allows to cover a double inflated greenhouse in one step, just like single roof greenhouses.

"EVO2 AC is actually a single 7-layer film that easily separates into 2 different films by introducing air between its layers after the film has been placed and securely fastened on the greenhouse", explained Doukas. "The technology permits a serious gain of installation time and cost, and at the same time it is much safer for the installation crew. It even makes it possible to cover a double inflated greenhouse during windy days."

EVO2 can also be equipped with the new AC technology of Plastika Kritis in order to make sure the inner layer has long lasting anti-dripping properties that don’t cause mist.
