US (OH): Eastlake approves medical marijuana greenhouse

City council has cleared the way for a Chagrin Falls investment company to seek a state license to raise medical marijuana at the site of the old Eastlake JFK Senior Center.

Council agreed Tuesday to sell the 33505 Curtis Blvd. site to Big Game Capital for the appraised value, $300,000, contingent on the state licensing the operation. Even if denied the license, Big Game will raze the vacant, decrepit center at no cost to the city.

Meanwhile, Growth Orchard of Willoughby, a potential rival for a state license, has stopped considering a plant in Chardon, according to Chardon Mayor Nancy McArthur. Growth Orchard Partner John Sikora did not return calls for comment but was said to be considering sites in Painesville and elsewhere.

Big Game's owner Andy Rayburn hopes to build a 55,000-square-foot greenhouse in Eastlake and employ 30 people for $1.5 million during the first year. The financially strapped city would get $30,000 a year in income tax.
