US (IN): Purdue Extension offers family business planning workshop

Purdue Extension is offering a workshop on leadership and legacy planning for families in agricultural businesses.

Jolene Brown, family business consultant, will present “The Positives of Passing It On!” at two locations in Northern Indiana:
  • March 14, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. EDT at the Winona Lake Heritage Room, 901 Park Ave., Winona Lake.
  • March 15, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. CDT at The Center of La Crosse, 100 S. Washington St., La Crosse.
In this interactive workshop, families will learn how to be successful managers of a legacy business and will learn realistic management tools to lay a solid foundation for business transition. Attendees will learn people management skills and will receive eight take-home tools for transitioning labor, management, leadership and ownership.

Conference organizer Kelly Heckaman, director of Purdue Extension-Kosciusko County, said the workshop will allow farm families to ask questions about succession and estate planning.

“Jolene has an important message to share and I like the way she delivers it,” said Heckaman. “I think it is important that the entire family hear that message at the same time.”

Lunch and program handouts are included in the $20 per person registration fee. The registration form is available at https://extension.purdue.edu/Kosciusko/Pages/article.aspx?intItemID=23927 and should be mailed to the Purdue Extension - Kosciusko County Office by March 3.
