Aromi Sicily launches Aromatico

In recent times, Scicli has become famous all over Italy (and abroad) thanks to "Inspector Montalbano". It is here that Gli Aromi Sicily was established twenty years ago.

With the support of his family, agronomist Enrico Russino specialised in medicinal and aromatic herbs. The company now cultivates around 200 varieties used for gardening, in the kitchen and for health purposes.

Enrico told FreshPlaza: "Caper and wild fennel plants continue to be our flagship products. Over the past few years, we also decided to widen our range by introducing various types of sage, thyme, rosemary, lavender, helichrysum and mint."

In 2017, the company became the only specialist in chemotyped plants in the region. "We provide consultations on feasibility studies and varietal research for different sectors."

On 25th February 2017 there will be the official presentation of "Officily", a project created by Enrico Russino and Paolo Pironti where anyone interested in this world can get all the information they need.

"In addition to selling the fresh products for the catering industry, our laboratories also dry and process the products. This is how we developed our fennel and caper paté range and Habanero cream. Around eight years ago, we opened our doors to enthusiasts, tour operators and schools. We work a lot with groups of Americans, Canadians, French, British and Germans as well as with people from northern Europe. I truly believe that a territory is promoted through the cooperation of the agricultural, processing, tourist, communication and marketing industries."

"For example, for St. Valentine's Day, we created 'Aromatico', a day dedicated to couples with an olfactory journey among aromatic, medicinal and tropical plants followed by a special dinner."

The company collaborates with the Satra restaurant in Scicli to organise events. In 2016, the company managed to increase its turnover by 30% thanks to the interest for niche products and for the aromatic and medicinal herb sector. 25% of the products is exported to northern Europe through direct and online sales.

"We believe our products are unique because, in addition to selecting local varieties and finding new ones, we do not store the products in warehouses. Only a little time passes between harvesting and processing, so the products are fresh. We invest a lot in packaging and communication and it makes a lot of difference."
